Themis – Goddess of Justice

Our website shows the statue of Themis from the Greek Mythology. Daughter of Uranos (heaven) and Gaia (Earth) she emanated from the source of all things and the natural order. Therefore she stood above the Gods. She provided her husband Zeus with advice.

In older depictions she did not yet carry a sword but an olive wig, which emphasised her role as transmitter of the natural law and order. Themis brought about truth, knowledge and justice.

After the Greek Mythology the Roman one came into being. Iustitia embodies the Roman goddess of the balancing and punishing justice and serves as the symbol of justice and judiciary.
